ABOUT ABOUT

Performance & presentation
w/ one-time exhibit of artworks by Joseph Cornell

Microscope is extremely pleased to present “Fears and Tremblings of an Angry Dog” by Jonas Mekas, a rare performance and presentation with audience participation on the contemporary art world. The evening will also include short videos by the artist and the first and only one evening exhibition of four never publicly seen works by Joseph Cornell, from Mekas’ personal archives.

The Angry Dog is an alter-ego Mekas first assumed for his legendary “Movie Journal” column which he began in 1958 and wrote until 1975 for the Village Voice. In his column Mekas usually championed works, but occasionally he informed the reader that he had run into The Angry Dog who had "this to say”, followed by a harsh critique or even outrage about a certain work or a wider development in film, art or the wider culture.

“Fears and Tremblings of an Angry Dog” is the 2nd performance at the gallery by Mekas following his 2013 “How to be a Crook and Succeed in the Art World” for which the artist appeared costumed as a clown.
