Microscope is pleased to present as part of its series YES a screening of new and recent short videos by New York artists Victoria Keddie and Scott Kiernan. The two collaborate together as E.S.P. TV - a residency based laboratory for video making, broadcasting, and performance operating off of a mobile TV studio - however the night is focused entirely on their individual practices.
Both artists unveil elements usually hidden in the imagery and production thereof, such as the medium, technologies, and means of dissemination used, including subtleties only readable in the texture and composition of the image as well as more explicit aspects that bring the actual machinery and techniques employed to the foreground. Keddie is concerned with "the fluctuations of electromagnetic activity, stereoscopic image and dimensional spaces, satellite debris and collision, image and sound synchronicity and collapse, time sensitivity, and the body in relation to the machine”. Kiernan is interested in the way "meaning shifts through stages of translation via technology, speech and syntax."
In both of their works, the medium of analog video - often synthesized to its breaking point in vibrant color gammas and processed soundtracks - is proven to be far from an exhausted medium, but one that has much left to be revealed.

Victoria Keddie is an artist working within cross disciplines of sound, video, installation, and performance. Keddie works with electronic sound and video composition and choreography. She has performed and exhibited internationally at venues and festivals such as Fridman Gallery, The Swiss Institute, Pioneer Works, Museum of Moving Image, The Museum of Art and Design, Queens Museum of Art, Anthology Film Archives, Lightcone (Paris), Syros International Film Festival (Syros, Greece), Studio XX (Montreal), LOOP Festival (Barcelona), Reykjavik Arts Festival (Reykjavik) among others. Keddie has also performed with the Optipus collective at The Kitchen, The Parrish Museum of Art (Watermill NY), and Microscope Gallery among others. Keddie has been artist-in-residence at Wave Farm, Signal Culture, Pioneer Works, Storefront for Art and Architecture, and the Museum of Arts and Design. Video works are distributed through Lightcone, (Paris). Sound works to be released with Spectral Evidence, (Cambridge, MA), In Context Music (NYC), and Robert & Leopold (NYC). Keddie is the Co-Director of E.S.P. TV, a nomadic TV studio that hybridizes technologies to realize synthetic environments and deconstruct the televisual for live performance. In early 2016, UNIT 11 was launched, a mobile transmission based studio and residency operated within an ENG news van. In January 2018, Keddie will launch "Satellite Studio" in Garlock, CA, using a 10 ft C band satellite dish receiver to track LEO space debris for sonic compositions. Keddie holds an MA from New York University in Museum Studies with focus on Ephemeral Collections, and a BFA from University of the Arts in Philadelphia. She is a Mobility Fellow at the California College of Arts in San Francisco, CA. Keddie lives and works in Queens, NY.
Scott Kiernan is a multi-disciplinary artist living and working in New York City. His work seeks alternate readings implicit in images and the technologies employed for their production. In his video, photo and installation works, electronically synthesized and photographic elements interact to address their own (im)materiality and means of distribution. Kiernan was founder and co-director of Louis V E.S.P., an artist-run gallery and performance space in New York City (2010-2012), and of E.S.P. TV (2011-present), a nomadic TV studio that explores televisual language and develops artist collaborations for broadcast. He also co-directs UNIT 11, a transmission based residency program which operates from a former ENG van turned mobile electronic studio. Kiernan has exhibited and performed internationally in venues such as New Museum, Museum of Arts and Design, Swiss Institute/Contemporary Art, Storefront for Art and Architecture, Whitney Museum of American Art, Harvard Art Museums, P.S.122, Mixed Greens, Ballroom Marfa, Southern Exposure, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, and the Center for International Contemporary Art in Rome; and teaches in Hunter College's Integrated Media Arts MFA program.
